Previous registration at [email protected] Participants need to bring their own SmartPhone or Tablet The ILC: Zer0 Museum will host a Hologram Creation workshop. We invite young people, between 6 and 12 years old, to discover creative techniques of light-related art and their potential. Hologram is an important and widely used effect for digital art, but do we know how it works? In this workshop we will discover it through the use of tablets and a plastic surface. Participants are advised to bring their own tablets, if available. They will gain a different and creative understanding of the effects of light, opening the door for a different and more developed appreciation of the works presented at Festival Luza by the workshop participants. |

“GUERRILHA LIGHTING”
when: 15th nov - 18h30 to 21H00 meeting point: FÁBRICA DA CERVEJA Workshop explaining the concept of Guerrilla, presenting and preparing for the event, at Fábrica da Cerveja Guerrilla Lighting – Venue: Rua António Maria Laboia Note: the workshop is limited to 40 people. Previous registration at [email protected] The concept of GUERRILLA LIGHTING was created in 2008 for the purpose of raising awareness of how lighting can transform space. Under the guidance of a team leader, each guerrilla takes part in creating a transient lighting design using torches, battery powered LEDs and an array of filters and accessories. Instructed to be in a specific position, the teams simultaneously light up various aspects of the chosen buildings, creating a dramatic spectacle. The installation is photographed, the lighting turned off and then the team move on to the next site. The initiative is open to anyone interested in light and lighting the public space. https://lightcollective.net/light/ing/guerrilla-lighting Women in Lighting is an inspirational digital platform that profiles women working in the field of lighting design. It aims to promote their passion and achievements, narrate their career path and goals, celebrate their work and therefore help elevate their profile in the lighting community. The project has been launched by Light Collective (Sharon Stammers and Martin Lupton) and FormaLighting a family owned Italian lighting designer and manufacturer, with the media support of the lighting designer Katia Kolovea. The project is supported by individual female lighting designers in 50+ different countries. The Portuguese ambassador is Paula Rainha. www.womeninlighting.com PAULA RAINHA is a fully qualified architect that graduated in 2002 at Faculdade de Architecture–UTL in Lisbon. In 2004, her architectural career led her to study and specialize in Light Design, in which she has nearly 15 years of experience. She did her Master at the Bartlett School of Graduate Studies in London, where she was 5 years and worked with well-reputed lighting consulting practices such as Campbell Design Light Consultants (currently DPA) and BDP Lighting. In 2011 she won the ‘Light World Tour Award by Philips, in which she travelled the world for 3 months in search of inspiring light installations. Paula is currently leading the practice Synapse Light and working for several hospitality and retail projects in Portugal and abroad. She has also collaborated with light artist Victoria Coeln in Vienna as a lighting assistant. She is also a guest blogger for Philips Lighting websites and a guest lecturer at Lisbon School of Design. JOANA MENDO graduated in Architecture at Faculdade de Architecture–UTL in Lisbon and a Master degree in Light & Lighting at the University College of London. Later, she also studied Technical Theatre Production at Goldsmiths, University of London and completed a professional module of urban planning at the Boston University. She started her professional career in 2006, since then she has participated in several urban lighting plans and projects of small to large scale in the fields of urban planning, architecture & lighting. She collaborated with weber+würschinger architekten, Lichtvision and Arup in Berlin and also Seam Design Ltd in London. She has worked with reputed architects such as David Chipperfield Architects, MEIS, Diller Scofidio + Renfro, Zaha Hadid Architects, AL_A, MAKE Architects, ACME, among others. In the past 6 years she has been heading the group Arup Lighting Urbanists in Europe. In 2019 she has started collaborating regularly with Synapse in Lisbon. MARTINA FRATTURA graduated in Interior Design at the Politecnico di Milano and in 2015 at KTH Architectural Lighting Design and Health, while developing Research work for the HTI department at TU/e, Eindhoven. She started working as a light designer in Milan, PLH Italy and after her master’s she became part of BDP Lighting’s team in Manchester between 2015 and 2017. At present she is conducting an experimental research entitled A BEAUTIFUL LIGHT about how lighting can keep levels of attention by using beauty perception as variable. Co-creator of the We Are Light booklet, together with Chiara Carucci, distributed by IALD for the 2015 International Year of Light. Part of the “La Mia Paura e’ Bianca” project, an artistic duo having light as media. In July 2018, Martina joined Synapse and has been collaborating regularly in several projects. PATRÍCIA GUERRA is a lighting designer living in Lisbon with a BA in Interior design from IADE and a Post-Graduation in Lighting Design from FAUTL. With 8 years experience, in a range of projects from offices, shoppings, hotels, spas, museums, residences and landscape across Europe, Africa and Asia. Started her career as a technical lighting consultant for Erco in Portugal but after 4 years she shift to be an independent Lighting Designer, first in an Engineering Office (Energia Técnica), then in a lighting design studio (Light2Life) and after that in Abdulmohsin Altheyab & Partners, an Saudi Arabian architecture office based in Lisbon. She is now co-founder of the lighting design studio Boon. FILIPA MAGALHÃES is an architect and lighting designer living in Lisbon (BA from Universidade Lusíada MA from Architectural Association + Course in Lighting Design from LDS). She started her professional activity in London at the Dexter Moren and Foster and Partners offices. After returning to Portugal, she worked in advertising as an art director assistant and collaborated in various architecture studios. More recently was responsible for the internationalization of the Light2Life Lighting Design Studio in the Middle East market and developing the lighting department of Abdulmohsin Altheyab & Partners studio in Lisbon, Venice and Saudi Arabia. Then you can't miss this activity! Join us for an activity full of “bright fun”. Science mornings for the youngest are 2 hours long and are held on Saturdays from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm. The developed activities provide rewarding experiences in a very stimulating environment, besides stimulating creativity and curiosity about the world, science and technology. "Introduction to the art of Light Painting Photography"
WHEN: 16TH NOV - 19H00 TO 21H00 meeting point: hotel faro The workshop is limited to 20 people. Previous registration at [email protected] Participants will need to provide their own camera with manual shutter speed options and a tripod. In this workshop we will show you the basic skills you need to create your own long exposure light painting photographs. We will demonstrate a variety of tools and techniques before inviting you to try out some of your own ideas with our guidance. It will be a fun, creative experience that we hope will inspire you. No previous experience required although a basic understanding of manual camera settings would be helpful. Participants will need to bring a Camera with options for manual settings and a Tripod. A shutter release cable is also very useful but not essential. Tought by Internationally renound light painters Frodo Alvarez, Ivan Barco, Mario Lechu, Iris Shyroii and Kim von Coels. The workshop will be held in English, but German and Spanish are also spoken by the team. Kim von Coels Is a German Photographer who resides in Glastonbury in the UK. With a history of creative photography, her journey with light painting started many years ago when she was at Central st. Martins university in London. Due to the confines and costs of working with film her Light Painting passion didn’t fully ignite until over a decade later when the advances in digital technology allowed an affordable approach to this art form. Nowadays Kim works with a large variety of Light Painting styles and techniques and has firmly embedded herself in the worldwide light painting community, collaborating with other Light Artists, participating in Light Painting events and her work appearing in several group exhibitions. |
